The Rotator Cuff is a group of 4 muscle tendons on the humerus (arm bone) of the shoulder joint that helps you to raise and rotate your arm. Any injury to the rotator cuff muscles or tear of the rotator cuff muscles leads to pain and hindrance in the movement at the shoulder joint. Let’s take a closer look at the Anatomy of Rotator Cuff and what treatment options are available for the rotator cuff tear treatment in Delhi with CSI.
The rotator cuff comprises a group of muscles and tendons in the shoulder joint that help move your arm and also help keep the shoulder joint stable. There are 4 muscles in the rotator cuff, namely- Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis. These four muscles originate from the scapula (shoulder blades) and are inserted into the humerus (arm bone). The muscles’ tendons blend in the joint capsule and form a musculotendinous collar.
Rotator Cuff tear means the partial or complete rupture of the Rotator Cuff Tendon/s that is treated by either a rotator cuff repair surgery which involves re-attaching the tendon of the rotator cuff muscles back to the bone or by a trimming or smoothening and decompression procedure called, debridement and subacromial decompression for partially torn rotator cuff. These surgeries are done using the Arthroscopy/ keyhole technique.
You are indicated for Rotator Cuff Surgery if you have torn your rotator cuff muscles causing pain in the joint which does not improve by conservative treatment or nonsurgical methods. Continued pain is the chief reason for Rotator Cuff Surgery.
If you have persistent pain in the shoulder joint owing to a torn rotator cuff tendon and your symptoms have lasted for 6 to 12 months, or you have a complete tear of rotator cuff tendon and have significant pain, loss of function, and weakness in the shoulder movement, you are a candidate for a rotator cuff surgery.
Rotator Cuff Tear is diagnosed by a physical exam done by your Orthopedic surgeon at CSI. They will physically examine your shoulder joint along with moving the arms in different positions. They will also check the strength of muscles in your shoulder and arms. The final diagnosis will be made by performing Imaging tests like X-rays, and Dynamic Stress MRI.
The treatment for Rotator Cuff tear depends upon the grade of the tear and the complaints of the patient. If the tear is partial or incomplete then you may be advised with a conservative treatment. However, if the injury is complete and conservative treatment including physical therapy, injections, and NSAIDs has been ineffective, Surgery is the treatment of choice.
